3rd Nordic Winter School on
Particle Physics and Cosmology

Gausdal, Norway, January 4-10, 2003

The purpose of the Nordic Winter School 2003 is to introduce PhD students to selected hot topics in high-energy physics and cosmology. It will be held in the Gausdal mountain hotel, approximately 40 kilometers north of Lillehammer (200 km north from Oslo). January 4 and 10 will be travel days; the classes will be held on 5-9 January.

U. Lindström (Uppsala): Basic Supersymmetry and String theory
H. Kurki-Suonio (University of Helsinki): Cosmic microwave background and the early universe
R. Rapp (NORDITA): Thermal field theory and instantons
F. Ravndal (University of Oslo): External fields and particle production
G. Sigl (Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris): Neutrino astrophysics

The school is organized by the NorFA project Theoretical Particle physics and Cosmology and Nordita.

The number of participants is limited to 40 students.

o Applicants will be notified of acceptance by end of November 2002.
o The cost of the school will be covered for Nordic students. This includes accommodation in double rooms, full board with 3 meals a day, and the transportation from/to the Oslo airport.
o For non-Nordic participants, the school costs 3600 NOK/student.
o Pending the final funding, we hope to be able to provide financial support for travel costs also. For funding possibilities, please see the application form above.


Other information:

o Gausdal Høifjellshotel is located in the mountains north of Lillehammer (see this very rough map to get an idea where it is). Its altitude is approx. 800 m from the sea level, close by the tree limit. There are ample possibilities for skiing (both cross-country and downhill) and other winter sports.

o Transportation: There will be bus transportation from the Oslo airport to Gausdal at 13.30 on January 4. On January 10, the bus will be back at the airport by 12.00. Please plan your flights accordingly. If these times are not suitable for you, please contact one of the organizers (see below).
