General Stuff

A picture of me...

I am Miikka Silfverberg, a PhD student (since the beginning of 2010) working on PoS tagging and parsing using weighted finite-state transducers. Currently my work is funded by Langnet, which is a Finnish Graduate school in language studies. I'm working in the research group HFST (Helsinki Finite-State Technology) at the Department of Modern Languages of the University of Helsinki.

I've been working in the HFST group since 2008. Before that I worked as a course assistant at the departments of General Linguistics (which is nowadays a part of the Department of Modern Languages) and Mathematics.

Besides language technology, I'm also interested in mathematics and linguistics and especially in combining the topics. In mathematics, I find abstract algebra and topology most interesting and like to daydream about some day applying them to linguistic problems.
