The density distribution is the result of a MHD simulation. The model represents an interstellar cloud (mean density ~103 cm-3, size ~6pc) subjected to normal interstellar radiation field.

        eff_fig04.jpg: Importance of weighted sampling. The (spherically symmetric) model consists of a central black body source surrounded by an optically thick dust cloud. The figure shows errors in computed dust temperatures for normal Monte Carlo calculations and for calculations where sampling of the radiation from small inner shells has been improved with weighted sampling.
        eff_fig07.jpg: Errors in computed temperatures as the function of iterations. Figure shows convergence for two Accelerated Monte Carlo (AMC) methods with and without a simple extrapolation scheme. In normal calculations 1% rms level would be reached after 600 iterations. The model is the same as for the previous figure and the optical depth to cloud centre is 100 at 1um.
