The nine islands of
Azores are the visible face of the big submarine mountains with more than 3 000 meters. Located in
the middle of the Atlantic ocean, between America and Europe, these islands signals the point of
conversion of three tectonic borders. Formed from volcanic action, the islands have benefits of one
strategic position that has always valorized

this Portuguese
archipelago. Gave support to the first settlers, to the maritime navigation more recently they are
considered fundamental in the logistic help to the United States air force. Also different species of
cetaceans find in the Azores area excellent conditions. Much of them are observed near the coast,
making this a prime whale-watching destination, and a convenient area to study such
animals. This is the reality consummated in the island of São Miguel. It is in this island
that FUTURISMO-Whale Watching has its base of operation. The Azores are in particular
known because of an constant presence of Sperm Whales. During all year they are sighted with many
facilities by hour vigias, the mans that looked for the Whales with binoculars from a
search tower in land. The islands of Azores are, also in the world, one of the best observation points of
Sperm Whales. FUTURISMO - Whale watching disposes of two areas were the two boats act. From
Capelas we make the cover of the

North coast of the
island of São Miguel. In the South coast the base of operations is located in the Marine of Ponta
Delgada . From May to October we make diary cruises in inflatable boats of 7 meters. The duration of
each trip is about three hours . FUTURISMO offers also cruises in a sailing boat with 36 foots with
programs of three days or one week. In this case the detection of the Whales is made with the help of
vigia and the other resource is a hydrophone that detects the Whales through the
echolocalization. The inflatable boats provide a sensation of adventure unforgettable. The sailing boat
facilitates one contract with the Whales and Dolphins through the observations continuous and more
proportional to the behavior study of the cetaceans.
