I'm definately in favour of the 24 hour contest (which I wasn't in the beginnnig). Big thanks to SRAL's contest managers for the publicity-work well done! There were some 50 more mults available this year in comparison to 1998. The new 2/2-el 40 meter system we put up at OH5LF's proved to do the job. And what comes to antennas I even had the 80 m 2-el wire beam being set up for CW by the station owner. After the contest was over Kari was there again to cut and tune the antenna for phone. What a host!
Wonder how good the activity from Scandinavia was? Some good numbers were heard (over 300) - so I guess the activity didn't drop from previous years.
1-radio operation. On 10 meters I had to give CW with a keyer and always disable TR's CW. Some extra RF bouncing back and forth on that band? That almost kept me away from that band but I guess I managed 10 meters somehow.
Conditions were as expected after having look at the F/A/K -indices. 10 meters - did it open to JA? Guess it did and I partly missed it by just keeping the antenna to SE on that band. W/VE's were good on 40 and 20 was fluctuating all night to W/VE. Aurora was there and 15/10 were bad to antenna bearings ranging 250-45 degrees. On 10 meters I worked quite a many Europeans just beaming SE - thanks to all with whom I had to repeat the exchange many times before the qso was ok.
Moved some mults from band to band. Made succesfull and unsuccesfull
skeds. Had a good time.
I have observed all competition rules as well as all regulations
established
for amateur radio in my country. My report is correct and
true to the best
of my knowledge. I agree to be bound by the decisions of
the Awards Committee.
