October 24 and 25, 2008, Helsinki
The Division of Particle Physics of the Finnish Physical Society is organising a Particle Physics Day 2008 on Friday, October 24, 2008 and a special Colloquium LHC - a Window to the Universe on Saturday, October 25, 2008, in Helsinki.
The purpose of the events is to bring together the Particle Physicists in Finland and to get an overview of the research being done. The special colloquium is ment for the general public. There will be talks both in finnish and in english. We hope for an active participation!
The Particle Physics Day is being kept at the Kumpula campus. There will be a session of talks only. The morning session (10:00 - 12:00) is devoted for status reports of LHC-experiments with Finnish participation (ALICE, CMS, and TOTEM). Afternoon session (13:00-17:00, intercepted by a coffee break) is used for short (15-20 min) contributed talks.
The dead line for the submission of abstracts for contributed talks and for the registration is Friday, October 10, 2008. The submissions (both abstract and registration) should be sent to timo.enqvist@oulu.fi. The maximum length of the abstract is half a page. Please register also in the case you just plan to participate without giving a talk. This will help us arrange the coffee breaks.
It has also been planned that there would be a common dinner on friday evening for all the participants. This would not be free of charge but needs to be paid by participants. If you are interested in having this dinner, please tell it also in the registration email.
