Exercises

Personal participation in the group is not mandotory. It is enough to return the answers to TA (using email address below). At the end of the course (i.e. after the final exam or the first retake exam), exercise bonuses will be calculated as follows: 20% bonus for 90% of exercises (showing “good effort”); 16% bonus for 80% of exercises; 12% bonus for 70% of exercises; 8% bonus for 60% of exercises; and 4% bonus for 50% of exercises. These bonuses will be added on the top of the exam results (both final exam and the first retake)

Advice: The optimal strategy for a student is the following. He/she reads handouts (plus the sections of the book given for the preliminary reading) beforehand as far as he/she understands it. During the lecture, the material is complemented and there is also the possibility of making questions. At home, the student reads all handouts together with lecture notes and prepares exercises associated with the lecture for demonstrations. After obtaining the solutions in demonstrations, he/she goes handouts, lecture notes and exercises through again. After the course, the whole material must be gone through again. In this manner, the stuff is run through several times, which intensifies learning.

Exercises are taught by doctoral student Julia Niemeläinen. Return the problem sets using moodle (moodle manual).

These exercise sets are from 2016, I might change them (well in advance). Old versions in italics
