Research at the Department of Environmental Sciences

The research at the Department of Environmental Sciences focuses comprehensively on environmental changes caused by human activities. The research is aimed at finding solutions to environmental problems. Research is both biologically and socially oriented and multidisciplinary.

Strong fields of research are:

1. aquatic and soil ecology
2. sustainable use of natural resources, including social and political consequences
3. functions and ecological changes of the Baltic Sea
4. urbanization
5. chemicalization of the environment and reclamation

The research activities are organized in research groups. In addition, the researchers participate in several research schools.
