International Master's Degree programmes
For international applicants University of Helsinki offers a comprehensive selection of research-oriented two-year International Master's Degree Programmes. They provide students with skills needed in demanding professions and give a solid foundation for doctoral studies. Also several regular Master's degrees can be completed in English.
The International Master's Degree Programmes are taught entirely in English. The scope of these programmes is 120 ECTS credits, completed with two years of full-time study. Some programmes are organised by the University of Helsinki along with other Finnish and foreign universities. All programmes comply with the national legislation governing university education and are, therefore, recognised globally.
No tuition fees
There are no tuition fees at the University of Helsinki – we believe that everyone must must be given an opportunity to educate themselves. The only obligatory fee is for the Student Union membership (90 to 100 euro per year). However, you should be aware that international Erasmus Mundus programmes may charge tuition fees: Economy, State and Society and Food of Life charge fees at present.

Postgraduate studies

Exchange students
If you would like to study at the University of Helsinki for an academic term or year and then transfer your credits to your home university, you can apply for exchange student status. In other words, to qualify, you should be registered and actively studying at a university outside of Finland.

Helsinki Summer School
Students interested in short-term study options can join the Helsinki Summer School. Summer School programme is designed for advanced students including introductory courses to the International Master's Degree Programmes.
