Doctoral Programme in short

The Finnish Doctoral Programme for Russian and East European Studies is a multidisciplinary programme for postgraduate students. It was established in 1998 and it is coordinated by the Aleksanteri Institute, which is a centre of research and education pertaining to Russia and East Europe, affiliated with the University of Helsinki.

The aim of the Doctoral Programme is to offer supervision, lectures and courses by nationally and internationally renowned researchers to doctoral students whose dissertation topics are related to Russia and East Europe. In addition, the Doctoral Programme offers young researchers access to a unique network of scholars in Russian and East European studies, from young novices to international top researchers.

The doctoral students participate in Finnish and international seminars and conferences and publish in domestic and international academic journals. They are also an integral part of the Aleksanteri Institute’s research activities and participate in various research projects administered by the Institute.

The national and multidisciplinary programme provides doctoral students with a solid foundation in Russian and East European studies and research, and prepares them for various expert positions in the civil service and in business and industry.
