1st MEMBREC Symposium 2012

Welcome to the home page of MEMBREC symposia. We – the Cell Biology Program of University of Helsinki Viikki Campus Research Group Organisation together with membrane researchers at Meilahti Campus – aim at organizing a series of symposia focusing on different aspects of biological membrane research. The first symposium was organized in September 2012, and now is the time for the second one in order with focus on membrane proteins.

Membrane research (e.g. membrane structure, endo- and exocytosis, vesicle traffic, organelle dynamics, signaling) is one of the major areas in medical and biological research, and one of the "hottest" ones. The idea with the symposia is to focus on the hot topics in membrane research, and we thus ask our speakers to present an overview of the focused subject area (including technical aspects), and spice this up with own results, rather than, as in traditional research presentations, focus only on their own projects, an approach which we also find student-friendly. Our goal is to attract advanced students and researchers from widely different research areas and create a fertile ground for cross-disciplinary exchange.
