Chemicum entryThe main purpose for research at VERIFIN is to develop methods for verification of disarmament of chemical weapons.

VERIFIN and its predecessor, CW-project, have supported chemical disarmament by strongly focusing on analytical chemistry to develop tools for verification of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).

Methods for screening and for identification of chemical warfare agents, their degradation products and starting materials (covering thousands of chemicals) have been developed.

Matrices like soil, air, water, and decontamination solutions have been intensively studied and the results, Recommended Operation Procedures (ROPs) and other guidelines for on-site and off-site analysis, have been published to assist OPCW in its verification task. Sample preparation methods have also been developed for biomedical samples e.g. urine and plasma.

VERIFIN provides possibilities for post-graduate studies. In addition, VERIFIN offers analytical services and technical support for outside customers.
