Graduates in Russian may be employed as teachers of Russian or perform various duties requiring a firm command of Russian and a profound knowledge of Russian culture within business, industry, cultural life, and public administration. Russian is the most widely spoken language in Europe, and Finland has an important role in the European context as a mediator between Russia and the West. There are close contacts between Finland and Russia, and as a result there has always been a particular need for specialists in Russian language and culture in Finland. A recent increase in immigration and tourism has made this even more noticeable.

Students graduating from the mother tongue option may find employment in various teaching duties or duties in trade, industry, culture or public administration which require profound competence in Russian language and literature.
