Do you wish to apply to the University of Helsinki? If you have any questions about admissions, please contact the Admissions Services at

Those wishing to study Russian as a minor subject must pass a qualifying test. You must be registered as a Helsinki University degree student in order to take part in this test. You should note that all those studying for a degree in Russian Language and Literature at the University of Helsinki (on either of the two study lines, but especially the line for Russian as a foreign language) are expected to have a good command of Finnish.

The Faculty of Arts website provides information on other options, including arrangements for degree students at other Finnish universities, and for graduates wishing to supplement their existing degree with a qualification in Russian (e.g. qualified teachers wishing to add Russian to the range of subjects that they can teach).

Information on coming to Helsinki as an exchange student should primarily be sought through your home university, but you may also wish to consult the relevant Helsinki University website: If your university does not have an exchange agreement with Helsinki University, you may be able to apply for visiting student status.
