Once again VARIENG gathered together to celebrate new publications. The first of the two was Anglo-Saxons and the North, Essays reflecting the theme of the 10th meeting of the International Society of Anglo-Saxonists in Helsinki, 2001, by Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies. The book was edited by Matti Kilpiö, Leena Kahlas-Tarkka, Jane Roberts, and Olga Timofeeva, and includes contributions by nine prominent medievalists.
Then, as if that wasn't enough, a second book was presented as well. Keskiajan Avain, a Finnish-language book on all things Medieval, recently came out by Suomalaisen Kirjallisuuden Seura. Edited by Marko Lamberg, Anu Lahtinen and Susanna Niiranen, the book includes a chapter on contemporary languages by VARIENG's very own Leena Kahlas-Tarkka.

Numerous newly discovered manuscripts, as well as records published in earlier books that were overlooked in other editions, offer a narrative account of the much-written-about episode in 1692–93. The book may be used as a reference book or read as an unfolding narrative. All legal records are newly transcribed, and errors in previous editions have been corrected. Included in this edition is a historical introduction, a legal introduction, and a linguistic introduction. Manuscripts are accompanied by notes that, in many cases, identify the person who wrote the record. This has never been attempted, and much is revealed by seeing who wrote what, when.
