Variationist Typology
One of the major challenges in corpus-based linguistic research at present is to describe language systems and subsystems in a way that incorporates evidence of inherent variation and variability, as well as directionality and degrees of dynamism in processes of change. The immediate goal of the Variationist typology theme group is to examine how the improved quality of quantitatively representative data currently available affects the process and outcome of linguistic analysis in taxonomy-, typology- and system-oriented research.
