Kutsu - Invitation - Invitación:

"Falkland Islands or Islas Malvinas - Self-determination or

An academic symposium on the Falkland-Malvinas Question will be held  on Friday, March  15 at 2 pm at the University of Helsinki (Faculty of  Social Scieces, Unioninkatu 37, Faculty Room). The event is organized  by the Department of Political and Economic Studies.

Marcelo Kohen, Professor of International Law at the Institute of  International Studies and Development (Geneva)

Martti Koskenniemi, Professor of International Law  (University of Helsinki)

Jussi Pakkasvirta, Professor, Head of Department of Political and  Economic Studies.

In 1965 the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 2065, which recognizes the existence of a sovereignty dispute  between Argentina and the United Kingdom on the Malvinas (Falklands)  Islands, South Georgias, South Sandwich and the surrounding maritime  areas, and calls upon both parties to find a peaceful and definite solution to the controversy through negotiations, taking into account  the interest of the inhabitants of the Islands.

After more than 50 years - despite the several pronouncements of the  General Assembly and the Special Committee on Decolonization of the  United Nations and other regional and bi-regional forum - the  controversy is still pending.

What are the competing rights in the case? How can multilateral and

regional organizations contribute to finding a peaceful solution?

Welcome - Bienvenidos
