A word from our guests

Alain Marciano
Associate Professor of Economics, University of Montpellier

TINT is a place in which research is of remarkable quality and researchers incredibly productive. But that's not all. TINT is not just one of the best research centers in the philosophy of social sciences. TINT is also an extraordinary place to work. There is an incredible atmosphere made possible by a continuous movement of formal and informal interactions between people.

Paul Humphreys
Commonwealth Professor of Philosophy, University of Virginia

If you are interested in social science methods and interdisciplinary research, TINT is one of the world's best centers for research. It has fostered a remarkable combination of creativity and a friendly intellectual environment that combines first class technical work with broad philosophical scope. Over the years I have benefited greatly from my interactions with the TINT group in Helsinki.

Alfred Mele
William H. and Lucyle T. Werkmeister Professor of Philosophy,
Florida State University

I visited the University of Helsinki and TINT in September 2016, where I gave a pair of lectures: "Moral Responsibility: Must Compatibilists Be Internalists?" and "Free Will and Neuroscience." I was very impressed by the quality of discussion after both lectures and by discussions I had separately with various faculty. I also very much appreciated the hospitality shown to my wife and me. It was a highly productive and thoroughly enjoyable visit. I have lectured in about 25 countries over the last 20 years. My September 2016 visit to Helsinki is one of my favorites.

Benedikt Fait
PhD Student, Ruhr-Universität Bochum

TINT perfectly combines three pillars of modern research: internationality, interdisciplinarity, and a friendly and collaborative environment. Hence, TINT and its distinguished researchers offered me the best place for a research stay I can even think of, and I benefited a lot.

Hasok Chang
Hans Rausing Professor of History and Philosophy, University of Cambridge

TINT has been supporting and nurturing a large section of the growing global community of researchers in the philosophy of the social sciences by hosting a number of advanced students, postdocs and established scholars for fellowships and research visits. With an open-minded and interdisciplinary spirit, TINT has also supported a good deal of work in many related areas. TINT has been a global treasure in the philosophy of science, and it has made Helsinki a very important destination for scholars everywhere in the field.

Dr. Niels Geiger
University of Hohenheim

I have very much enjoyed the warm and welcoming atmosphere during my three months at TINT. First, it was an ideal surrounding to advance my own research. Additionally, the open discussions and critical but constructive atmosphere in TINT's seminars provided me, an economist, with an understanding and appreciation for the philosophy of science which I had lacked before I came to Helsinki.

Brandon Boesch, PhD Student
University of South Carolina

My time at TINT greatly enhanced my doctoral research. I received lots of useful feedback on a paper I presented on models at the PoS-Seminar which has greatly improved the paper. Everyone was supportive and kind--it was a truly excellent place to study! I am grateful for the opportunity to work in the excellent research environment of TINT!
