IT Management in University of Helsinki
At the University of Helsinki, IT services are provided centrally by IT Services, a part of the University’s Central Administration, and locally by faculties and departments. There is a small IT management unit in the University’s Central Administration, which is a part of the Rector’s Office, and which is responsible for the strategic management, supervision and information security of all these services.
Ilkka Siissalo, Director of Information Management, is the head of the unit, and he also functions as the director of information technology.
The tasks of IT management include:
- managing the field, setting objectives and monitoring the results and costs of the operations
- strategic planning, formulating and publishing IT standards and instructions
- supporting the Rector of the University, along with the higher management, with IT related issues
- developing the IT architecture of the University
- responsibility for centralized IT acquisition agreements, such as centralised campus licence acquisitions for software
- managing and guiding information security operations at the University
- coordinating IT training and agreements within the University
- IT-related cooperation with other universities and the Ministry of Education
