Science at street level
Think Corner welcomes everyone to see, hear about and experience University research and teaching. Built around scientific themes and individual events, Think Corner’s programme deals with the versatile world-class research conducted at the University as well as with topical, red-hot issues. Think Corner arranges informative sessions, panel discussions, workshops and exhibitions, aiming to present a broad spectrum of science in an easily understandable manner. You can also enjoy goodies and treats at the Think Corner Café and browse around the Think Corner Shop and its range of Rosebud books, University products and the ethically produced Hyvä teko items.
How did it all start?
In 2012 the University of Helsinki made world-class research easily accessible to all Helsinki residents by opening Think Corner on Aleksanterinkatu for the duration of the World Design Capital year. The first year was a resounding success, with the facilities hosting over 700 presentations and over 400 workshops on various academic and scientific topics. The space, with its large windows, energised the corner of Aleksanterinkatu and Fabianinkatu and drew 300 to 500 visitors daily. Think Corner will continue its popular activities at street level in Porthania from June 2013 onward, after which it will move back to Aleksanterinkatu and take its place as the main stage for the University’s 375th anniversary events in 2015.
