Basic Practice
– Total amount of guidance: 7 hours

In Basic Practice, either 20 minutes (for 45-minute lessons) or 30 minutes (for 75-minute lessons) of guidance is allocated for each student teacher. The mentor is also paid for holding a 60-minute meeting both at the beginning and at the end of the practice period. This makes the total amount of guidance per student 7 hours.

If the field school has several student teachers of the same field/teaching subject, it is natural to also use group guidance. The mentor has 7 hours of guidance per student teacher, so if there are two student teachers, the mentor is paid for 14 hours of guidance. The mentor can decide how to use the 14 hours, and he/she can divide it between individual guidance (going through the lesson plans and giving feedback on practice lesson) and group guidance. The topics in group guidance can be different issues related to school and teaching. Thus, there is no separate compensation for giving group guidance.

Advanced Practice
– Total amount of guidance: 9 hours and 30 minutes

In Advanced Practice, either 30 minutes (for 45-minute lessons) or 50 minutes (for 75-minute lessons) of guidance is allocated for each student teacher. The mentor is also paid for holding a 60-minute meeting both at the beginning and at the end of the practice period. This makes the total amount of guidance per student 9.5 hours.

If the field school has several student teachers of the same field/teaching subject, it is natural to also use group guidance. The mentor has 9.5 hours of guidance per student teacher, so if there are two student teachers, the supervisor is paid for 19 hours of guidance. The mentor can decide how to use the 19 hours, and he/she can divide it between individual guidance (going through the lesson plans and giving feedback on practice lessons ) and group guidance. The topics in group guidance can be different issues related to school and teaching. Thus, there is no separate compensation for giving group guidance.

Examples

Example 1.
In Basic Practice, the student teacher has 15 (45-minute) practice lessons and the guidance given to student teachers is 20 minutes per practice lesson (300 minutes in total). The mentor teacher is also being paid for giving a 60 minute meeting both at the beginning and at the end of the practice period (120 minutes in total). This makes the total amount of guidance per student 7 hours (420 minutes) and the compensation is then 227,50 € per student teacher.
When defining the guidance fee, the compensation includes both group guidance and individual guidance. The mentor teacher can agree with the student teacher or the student teacher group which guidance lessons are group teaching and which are considered as individual guidance.

Example 2.
In Advanced Practice, the mentor teacher has three student teachers and the amount of guidance per student is 9,5 hours.  During the training period, the total amount of guidance is 28,5 hours (3 x 9,5 hours). From these 28,5 hours, the mentor teacher can agree with the student teachers that part of the guidance is given as group guidance: the more students the mentor teacher has, the more opportunities they have to use guidance as group guidance sessions.  If the mentor teacher has only on student teacher, all the topics that are considered to be given in group guidance, must be dealt with in a condensed form within the individual guidance sessions.
