Subject Teacher Education Programme in English

STEP students in the National Park

The aim of the STEP Project was to design a teacher education curriculum in English for subject teachers. During the preparation and development stages, the STEP Project piloted courses in spring and autumn 2010 and spring 2011.

The project was successful as in September 2010, the Department of Teacher Education at the University of Helsinki approved STEP – Subject Teacher Education Programme in English to be part of its regular operations as of 1 January 2011.

STEP started as a full programme in August 2011. The Subject Teacher Education Programme in English (60 ECTS credits) is geared for both Finnish and international students. Please click on the tabs for more information on the degree and admission requirements.

Further developmental efforts continue in STEP and the goal is a coherent package of intercultural teacher education courses that are based on the strong Finnish pedagogical knowledge and fit an international context. You can find more information about research in STEP under the Research tab on top.
