Art History
Research in art history embraces the entire visual culture in its historical and social context and significance. The main focus is on visual arts, architectural memorials, planning and construction as well as folk art. Research today, especially as regards theories, is international. The study of visual environment takes place through examining the history and significance of architecture and other artefacts and works of art. This includes scrutinizing in the light of various theories and approaches the relevant social praxis, power relations, aesthetical aspirations, religious notions as well as the use the role that these works have had in the life of individuals and communities. Knowledge of art history is needed in museum work, environment and construction preservation, cultural administration, in cultural planning missions and media work.
