The Erik Castrén Institute of Inernational Law and Human Rights

The Erik Castrén Institute of International Law and Human Rights (ECI) was established in 1998 within the Faculty of Law at the University of Helsinki. The aim of the Institute is to promote research on human rights and new approaches to public international law.

The Research Activities of the Institute are structured around externally funded projects, which represent various areas of international law. In addition to research, the Institute organises seminars, workshops and plays part in international research networks. Annually, the Institute hosts researchers from abroad as a part of the Institute's visiting fellow scheme, and provides traineeship opportunities for students and young researchers.
