Representing and Sensing Nature, Landscape and Gender is an interdisciplinary research project funded by the Academy of Finland (2007-2010) and located at the Christina Institute for Women’s Studies, University of Helsinki. The project investigates the connections among nature, culture and gender as present in art, literature and everyday environment. The research topics range from contemporary art and nineteenth-century landscape photography to popular science, urban landscape and lived experience of suburban space.

The project cooperates with the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts, the Ateneum Art Museum and other institutions. It organizes seminars, workshops and public discussions. The project is directed by Kirsi Saarikangas.
