Degrees and work experience

Training and working

All university degrees include at least a few credits' worth of studies in orientation into professional life. Training periods can be included in all degrees; in some majors they are obligatory. The University of Helsinki supports training with allocations to the Departments. The Departments then award traning grants to students. Students are also encouraged to look for training positions independently, in Finland or abroad. It is quite common for Finnish students to work while completing their university studies.

The Career Services helps students with the transition to working life by offering information service and advice as well as by arranging events and workshops.

Student Union and student associations

Participating in the activities of the Student Union of the University (HYY), Student Nations, Faculty and Department associations, interest groups, clubs, etc. provide students with valuable experience and skills needed in their future careers. Through their organisations, students have representation at all levels of University's decision making.
