Mission of the University
The University of Helsinki is the most versatile institution for science, education, and intellectual renewal in Finland, a pioneering builder of the future.
Vision until 2020
The University of Helsinki will consolidate its position among the best multidisciplinary research universities in the world. It will operate actively for humanity and a just society.
Strategic objectives
– The university exercises significant societal influence and responsibility, is an esteemed partner and a promoter of science.
– The research is high-quality and profiled.
– The teaching and learning quality is high.
– Internationality is part of all operations.
– The university is a good employer.
– Management ensures the preconditions for carrying out basic tasks in accordance with the strategy.
– The support functions serve the basic tasks and management of the university in an appropriate and efficient manner.
Key values
The operations of academics are guided by the essential values: critical analysis, creativity and the pursuit of truth.
Development areas will be included in five action plans prepared in spring 2009:
– Research policy action plan
– Action plan for teaching and studies
– Action plan for societal interaction
– HR policy plan
– Action plan for management and supportive measures
The faculties and separate institutions will prepare their own objective plans for the period 2010–2012 on the basis of the University of Helsinki Strategy.
