Kindergarten Teacher and Early Childhood Education

The kindergarten teacher education degree produces early childhood and preschool education professionals. During their studies, the students get also acquainted with elementary education. The education is multidisciplinary and its guiding principle is interaction between different subjects, scientific fields and orientations. The education gives the students abilities to function as educators and influential and innovative persons in society. The reflection on ethical aspects is central in the education.

The kindergarten teachers do a Bachelor’s degree in Education, which gives them qualifications to work as kindergarten teachers in day care and preschool and in different tasks demanding expertise in early childhood education. In the kindergarten teacher education there is a quota for students who have completed a college-level kindergarten teacher degree. Kindergarten teachers who have obtained a Bachelor's degree may apply for studies leading to a Master's degree with early childhood education as the major subject. The emphasis in the Master of Education (early childhood education) degree is on planning, development, administration, leadership and research in early childhood and preschool education. It is also possible to include pedagogical studies for subject teachers in the degree.
