Ahti-Veikko Pietarinen is Professor of Semiotics at the University of Helsinki and Director of the Helsinki Peirce Research Centre. His research interests include Logic, Philosophy of Language, Philosophy of Science, History of Philosophy, Peirce, and Pragmatism.

Teaching associates

Teaching and student guidance in the programme are provided by a group of professional researchers and lecturers who come from a wide range of disciplines that utilise semiotics. In addition to Finnish experts, the programme also makes extensive use of international specialists.

Merja Bauters is a researcher in the Department of Aesthetics at the University of Helsinki as well as a lecturer at the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. Her interests are visual artefacts, interpretation, the theorist Peirce, semiotic methodologies, semiosis and body & mind.
