Ahti-Veikko Pietarinen is Professor of Semiotics at the University of Helsinki and Director of the Helsinki Peirce Research Centre. His research interests include Logic, Philosophy of Language, Philosophy of Science, History of Philosophy, Peirce, and Pragmatism.

Teaching associates

Teaching and student guidance in the programme are provided by a group of professional researchers and lecturers who come from a wide range of disciplines that utilise semiotics. In addition to Finnish experts, the programme also makes extensive use of international specialists.

Dario Martinelli is a docent of musicology, and an expert in zoosemiotics. His main concerns within semiotics are animal communication, human-animal interrelation, popular music and film studies.

Eero Tarasti is a well-known Finnish musicologist and semiotician who has held several posts as the director or president of international semiotic and musicological societies. Professor Tarasti has written and edited numerous books and publications, and is known for his theories of existential semiotics.
