1) To develop a method for connecting fragmented forest patches in order to increase biodiversity and living conditions of flora and fauna based on geographic information systems and scientific evidence from bird population studies

2) To implement a Taita Hills Environmental Monitoring System (THEMS) for capacity building and for local authorities and organisations

3) To explore possibilities of the participation of local communities for conservation and restoration, and natural resource management, and

4) To explore possibilities to integrate the results from the participatory research methods with geographic information systems.
