The Assyrian Royal Seal

The Project’s Logo is a representation of the royal seal used during the Neo-Assyrian period. It was drawn by Dominique Collon of the Department of Western Asiatic Antiquities of the British Museum from original seventh century B.C. impressions (BM 84672 and 84677) in the British Museum.

The seal shows the Assyrian king in single combat with a rampant lion. For more information on the use and history of the Assyrian royal seal, see SAAS 1, pp. 123-45.
