My research focuses on examining inquiry and learning processes from the viewpoint of the philosophy of science. I am applying philosophical theories and concepts for analyzing processes of acquiring and creating new knowledge. I am interested in scientific discovery and processes of innovation as well as understanding inquiry as a collaborative process of questioning and problem solving. An essential question to investigate is what conception of knowledge does one find in theories that purport to explain knowledge transformation. My doctoral dissertation focus on abductive detective methodology and, more generally, phenomena related to discovery and knowledge creation. A special interest of mine is Charles S. Peirce's multifaceted theory of signs and his philosophy in general (see webpages of the Peirce research group at the University of Helsinki).
