Although mass media has an important affect on us, the process of mediation has largely been ignored in musicology and ethnomusicology.

There are some preliminary studies on music and media from an economical point of view (Attali), from the musico-political perspective (Malm and Wallis) or from the point of view of globalisation (Slobin). However, there is clearly a need for a project that would shed light on how different media affect music or what kind of an impact they have on us.

Furthermore, there is clearly a need for new theories and methods for the study of media and all of the side effects caused by media as an extremely complicated phenomenon.
