The Finnish Research School in Women’s and Gender Studies
The Finnish Research School in Women's and Gender Studies is a collaborative, interdisciplinary graduate school for the dynamic and growing field of women’s and gender studies in Finland. The Research School involves the disciplines of women’s and gender studies at the universities of Helsinki, Joensuu, Jyväskylä, Lapland, Tampere and Turku as well as at Åbo Akademi University. The director of the Research School is university lecturer, adj. prof. Kirsi Saarikangas (University of Helsinki). The coordinator is Maija Urponen, M.Soc.Sc. (University of Helsinki).
The Research School currently has six graduate school positions funded by the Ministry of Education from 2007 to 2011, and 11 doctoral students working under other funding. Its core operations include regular scholarly courses and theme seminars, annual follow-up meetings as well as individual dissertation supervision. With various associates, the Research School organizes domestic and international scholarly seminars. It has been in operation since the establishment of the Finnish graduate school system, initially (1995–2006) under the name Gender System Graduate School.

The Finnish Graduate School in Art History
The Finnish graduate school in art history is a national network consisting of the
departments of art history at the universities of Helsinki, Jyväskylä, Turku and Åbo
Akademi University in Turku. The graduate school has been funded by the Academy of
Finland and the Ministry of Education since 1999 and the University of Helsinki is
responsible for organization. The director of the graduate school is Adjunct Professor
Renja Suominen-Kokkonen, Acting Professor of Art History, and the coordinator is Hanne
Selkokari PhD. The administration group of the graduate school includes representation
from all the universities where postgraduate training in art history is provided. There
are currently nine doctoral students in the Finnish graduate school of art history.
The main form of work of the graduate school is an annual four-day summer school held in
English. The summer school is open to all graduate students in art history by
application. It is arranged thematically each year and led by two invited international
scholars. In this manner, the summer school has also established contacts of individual
supervision between graduate students and international scholars.
