Student mobility through the Erasmus, Nordplus and bilateral agreements between universities
Faculty of Pharmacy has several exchange agreements within the Erasmus and Nordplus cooperation programmes. Furthermore the University of Helsinki has bilateral exchange agreements with top universities all over the world.
If your university has an exchange agreement with the University of Helsinki and with the Faculty of Pharmacy in particular and you would like to apply as an exchange student, please take the following steps:
- Contact the student exchange coordinator of your own university or institution and ask for the procedures at home.
- Go to the University of Helsinki student exchange pages (http://www.helsinki.fi/exchange/). The application is an on-line form. From the same pages you can find more general information.
- Submit the application. The student exchange coordinators will contact you and our Faculty office on the details and whether your visit can be arranged or not.

Student mobility without a university exchange agreement
Visiting Students
The Faculty can offer a visiting student status (free movers, non-exchange programme students) at undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate level for a student who is enrolled and actively studying at a university outside Finland. The prerequisite is that the student will take courses at the University of Helsinki and that the courses completed at the University of Helsinki may be transferred to the student's home institution to be integrated into the student's degree programme there.
The following documents must be enclosed with the Mobility Online application and be sent by post to the International Affairs Officer at the Faculty:
- Official transcript from the student's home institution
- Statement on credit transfer from the student's home institution
- Study plan that indicates which courses the student intends to take at the Faculty
- Motivation Letter
Including a clarification of sufficient language skills
Visiting students receive credit for all of their work, but are not able to obtain a degree. The visiting student status is normally valid for a minimum of three months and maximum of two academic years.
There is no official deadline for applications, but the online application should be filled in, printed out and sent with all the required enclosuresat least two months before the planned period. Please note that if you are interested in a practical laboratory period, the application should be sent app. 5-6 month before the planned period. The online application is available at the university's admissions site. Please choose the heading for visiting student applications from top of the page (the blue bar).
Erasmus Placement Program (SMP) interns as Visiting Students
Concerning Erasmus Placement Program (SMP), the University of Helsinki has a rule that practicing student interns should be taken into an employment relationship with the University. Students should be paid by their place of internship. Issues concerning responsibilities and insurance must be considered by the employing unit. In addition, the students are strongly recommended to have a good personal insurance.
If Erasmus SMP interns wish to obtain a student status and a right to study at the Faculty, they must apply as a Visiting Student. The prerequisites are that the student has already secured a host and that student will take courses or receive ECTS credits for practical training at the Faculty. The credits completed at the University of Helsinki should be transferred to the student's home institution to be integrated into the student's degree program there. Visiting Students receive credit for their work, but are not able to obtain a degree.
NB! The intern should apply for the status from the Faculty he/she plans to study/receive the ECTS credits in.

- Statement of approval from the student's home institution
Including a statement of granting the Erasmus Placement Grant and a statement of approval of the credits completed at the University of Helsinki - Study plan that indicates which courses the student intends to take at the Faculty
- Motivation letter by the student
Including a clarification of sufficient language skills
NB! Training agreements should not be sent to the International Affairs Officer at the Faculty Office. If a training agreement is required, it should be signed at and agreed upon by the host / employing unit.
