Mass spectrometry and metabolomics group

Principal investigators: Docent Tiina Kauppila (Head of Unit), Prof. Risto Kostiainen, Prof. Tapio Kotiaho

Analytical chemistry is an independent discipline that is largely applied in pharmaceutical, bio-, and life sciences. As the bioactive compounds in biological systems can be highly effective at very low concentrations, more sensitive and selective analytical methods are urgently needed.

The research focus of the Mass spectrometry and metabolomics group involves the development of novel and more sensitive, selective and faster methods for the analysis of drugs and biomolecules, as well as their metabolites in biological samples, such as urine, blood, and brain tissue. The main interests of the MAC unit are focused on mass spectrometry, separation techniques and microchip technology.
