Welcome to the Division of Pharmaceutical Biosciences!
The Division of Pharmaceutical Biosciences is a part of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Helsinki, Finland. The Division hosts two main disciplines: biopharmaceutics and pharmaceutical biology.
Biopharmaceutics investigates phenomena that determine access of drugs to their therapeutical targets.Pharmaceutical biology consists approaches in the discovery and testing of pharmaceuticals that are derived from natural sources.
Pharmaceutical biology is the discipline dealing with research on cells from micro-organisms, plants and animals as producers of biogenic, small molecule and protein drugs and excipients. This discipline is based on the biological fundamentals in pharmaceutical sciences and on their exploitation in drug discovery, production, quality assessment, standardization and use of biogenic drugs.
The Division of Pharmaceutical Biosciences is teaching also some fields that are related to these main disciplines (incl. pharmacokinetics, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical biotechnology, pharmaceutical microbiology, biomaterials).
The research of the Division of Pharmaceutical Biosciences is acclaimed internationally. It has been mainly organized as a research center (Centre for Drug Research).
• Personnel of about 95 people
• Ten research groups
• International personnel of about 50%
• Master's and Ph.D. degree projects available
• Summer jobs and student assistant employment opportunities
• The graduated students have been employed well to the pharmacies, hospitals, pharmaceutical industry and regulatory agencies in Finland and abroad
Division of Pharmaceutical Biosciences is located in
Biocenter 2 (Viikinkaari 5 E, 00790 Helsinki).
