Educational Leadership
Development of university-level adult education
The training focuses on how academic adult education helps promote interaction between society and university research, creating and maintaining client contacts as well as acquiring funding for training and development projects. The target group consists of education officials in different countries, adult education organisations and universities.
Training for Educational Institution Management (6 credits)
This training provides conceptual and practical tools for school management, the development of work communities, and the management of human resources and change. The needs and development projects of the training group will define the focus points of the training. This national training programme along with its development projects provides an opportunity to establish networks with colleagues and their work communities.
For Teachers Utilising Information and Communication Technology
Video as a Pedagogical Tool and a Support for Learning (5 credits)
Video footage can be used to support learning – through graphic examples of different phenomena – as well as to encourage students to reflect upon actions and policies. This training will give participants an understanding of the possibilities of video and its learning advantages in educational institutions and the workplace. Participants will also learn to create edited video learning material.
Web-based Collaborative Inquiry Learning (5 credits
Participants will become knowledgeable in the methods of collaborative inquiry learning on the Internet. On the basis of the information acquired, they will be able to implement projects in a web environment with their own students. The training methods are collaborative and promote participation. Together with the web environment they support both work in the workplace and remote work.
Social Media as a Tool for Collaborative Learning (5 credits)
This course will help teachers to more effectively benefit from new free web services and applications in their teaching. Participants will learn about the features of social media tools and programmes and will experiment to see how these can be applied in different pedagogical solutions.
Increased Teaching Quality through the Web (7 credits)
This course will support and develop web-based teaching at educational institutions which utilise web pedagogy. The training will introduce current development models for web-based education, and participants will draw up a development plan or conduct a development project related to their own or an educational institution’s web education. Acquired or self-processed quality criteria for web-based education will serve as the tools for development.
Preschool Education
Study Programme for Preschool Education and Initial Teaching (25 credits)
The purpose of this programme is for participants to gain a deeper theoretical knowledge of the fundamentals and didactic starting points of preschool education and initial teaching. The programme will expand the professional skills of the participants as they examine their own work and the work of children, seek critical ways of thinking, process information and learn to understand their own as well as children’s learning strategies. The training will be adapted to the content of the different subjects involved.
Learning Reading through Writing – With the Help of Computers (6 credits)
This course covers a new teaching method aimed at supporting children’s learning. Participants will learn how to apply the method in their everyday teaching. The course will show how a computer can be used playfully as a typing machine when teaching children, with the teaching remaining target-focused and supporting the children’s natural inclination to learn. Further, the training provides teachers and schools with the opportunity to establish national and international networks.
Subject Management
Didactics of Foreign Languages
We provide both short and long term training for teachers who teach different levels of foreign languages. The courses aim to update the didactic knowledge and skills of foreign-language teachers. Popular themes in these courses include supporting students with learning difficulties, teaching oral language skills and new trends in teaching grammar.
Didactics of Basic Education in Physics and Chemistry (2 credits + 1 credit + 1 credit)
This training aims to direct basic education class teachers and subject teachers into studying their own learning and learning results. The themes covered by the training will create a basic outline, in accordance with the curriculum, for learning physics and chemistry. The work methods used will demonstrate the experimental nature of the natural sciences as well as the conceptions and theories that steer observations.
Support for General Education
The Diversity of Learning – Models and Methods for Everyday Teaching (5 credits)
This training aims to promote collaboration between general education and special education by providing theory, good practices and methods for working with students with distinct learning needs. The participants will learn to recognise different needs for support as well as students’ diversity. This training will help teachers to work expediently for their students and in cooperation with parents and a multi-professional group of people.
Bringing the Language of Science and Mathematics Closer to Students (4 credits)
This training helps preschool and general education class teachers as well as special education teachers to acknowledge the ambiguous character of the language of science and mathematics and the effect this has on learning. The strengthening of the teachers’ pedagogic know-how base will increase their confidence as guides in an intertwined process of learning scientific language and absorbing information.
Outside Environments in Teaching (Camp School, Gardens, Nearby Forests, Cities) (6 credits)
Teachers are always encouraged to utilise outdoor environments in teaching. For example, a garden or a nearby forest can be useful for many subjects as well as teamwork teaching. Class teachers can also make use of camp schools and urban areas when teaching biology.

Basics of Meteorology
The purpose of the course is to introduce participants to the atmospheric phenomena which are the focus of meteorological research as well as their analysis through the laws of physics. The approach is largely descriptive even though some equations are discussed. Content areas include atmospheric physics, weather phenomena, the climate, weather prediction and climate modelling.
Management Education Programme for the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHS)
The world around us is changing and placing new demands on the NMHS and challenging its management.
