Organisation of the postgraduate degrees in law
Postgraduate students in law are required to participate in the postgraduate study programme set up by the faculty which consists of a general and a specialized part. The general part contains lectures and examinations on legal theory and methods as well as seminars on legal theory. The specialized part contains studies in a particular area of law, consisting of written examinations and postgraduate seminar. Those pursuing the Doctor of Laws -degree are to submit and publicly defend a doctoral dissertation. A personal supervisor is appointed for each postgraduate student. The Faculty of Law has approved recommendations for the principles of good supervision for the faculty’s doctoral programme: Recommendation for principles of postgraduate supervision List of responsible teachers in major subjects (discipline coordinators) at the Faculty of Law, academic year 2011-2012 Structure of the postgraduate degrees at the Faculty of Law:The Doctor of Laws & the Licentiate of Laws degrees: Structure in pdf 1) The general part (theoretical, methodological & general studies) - Studies in the general theory of science and theory of jurisprudence , 12 ECTS credits - Seminar in the field of legal theories and methodology, 4 ECTS credits - Seminars in Legal Theory (two study modules à 4 credits), 8 ECTS credits - Other activities according to the student’s personal study plan (in theoretical, methodological & general studies), 8 ECTS credits 2) The specialized part (major subject studies) - Cum laude approbatur study unit in the major subject field or in a subject closely related to the major subject, 10 ECTS credits - Laudatur study unit in the major subject, 14 ECTS credits - Other activities according to the student’s personal study plan (in the major subject field), - Licentiate thesis (LL.Lic. degree): recommended length 100–150 pages - The doctoral dissertation (LL.D. degree): recommended length 250–300 pages
