Introduction
The biennial Maple Leaf and Eagle Conference has been organized since 1986. It has evolved into one of the largest and most prestigious conferences in Europe for American and Canadian studies. This year the conference will feature more than 70 speakers. The conference theme, North America as West/ the West of North America, will be covered in sessions dealing with a wide variety of topics, such as education, health, movies, literature, music, politics, wars, and much more. Presentations will be given by scholars representing many different academic disciplines, such as History, Literature, Cultural Studies, Native American and First Nations Studies, Social Science, Economics.
In addition to plenary sessions, the conference will follow a format of thematically organized panels featuring between two and four papers each. The presentation time for one presentation is 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of discussion. Speakers are encouraged to present their findings orally, rather than reading a paper.
