Studies
Students may take Nordic Studies as a major or minor subject of a Bachelor's or Master's degree or do individual courses according to their needs. Nordic Studies is also available as a doctoral degree programme, and can be freely taken as a minor subject by all degree students at the University of Helsinki.
Basic studies are an introduction to Nordic societies and social systems as well as their ecological environments, histories and cultures. The purpose is to lay a basis for comprehending Nordic societies from a variety of perspectives.
Intermediate studies offer a comprehensive outline of the specific characteristics of Nordic countries from a multidisciplinary and comparative angle. Intermediate studies may be linked to research projects on current issues.
In advanced studies, students will gain a thorough knowledge of their own specialisation and acquire the knowledge and skills required for writing a thesis. They will also focus on the methodological, theoretical and thematic studies supporting thesis writing.
