Nordic Studies approaches the Nordic countries from an interdisciplinary and comparative angle, looking at what makes Norden Nordic. As of 2011–12, Nordic Studies is part of the umbrella programme of Area and Cultural Studies.
Students may take Nordic Studies as a major or minor subject of their Bachelor's or Master's degree or choose individual courses according to their needs. It is also available as a doctoral degree programme.
As a minor subject, the programme is open to all degree students at the University of Helsinki.
