Finnish language courses at the University of Helsinki
The Department of Finnish, Finno-Ugrian and Scandinavian Studies is responsible for the Finnish language teaching for all the International Students of the University of Helsinki. Our Finnish language courses are intended for exchange and degree seeking students enrolled at the University of Helsinki.
Intensive Finnish Course at the Helsinki Summer School
The Intensive Finnish Course is only for new international master's degree students who have been accepted to the University of Helsinki via University Admissions Finland (UAF). The course is organized by Helsinki Summer School.
Finnish and Swedish courses at other institutions of higher education
International students can now study Finnish or Swedish at the University of Helsinki or apply for the right to take courses at the Aalto University, the HAAGA-HELIA University of Applied Sciences, the Arcada University of Applied Sciences, the Laurea University of Applied Sciences, the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and the Hanken School of Economics.
Before applying for courses at other institutions, however, please check whether the University of Helsinki offers suitable courses.

At the Finnishcourses.fi website, you can look for information on Finnish (and Swedish) language courses in the Helsinki region (Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen). Course information is available in Finnish, English and Russian.
Language Centre at the University of Helsinki
The Language Centre offers courses in several other languages. On many of the courses the language of instruction is Finnish.
You can also study languages in the self-access facilities of the Language Centre. You can study over 40 languages with the help of self-access staff and language tutors, choosing your own materials, schedule and study pace.
