The University of Helsinki is number one in Finland

Five Finnish universities made it onto the list of the best universities in the world.

The University of Helsinki is number one in Finland The University of Helsinki was ranked the best Finnish university on a ranking list compiled by a Shanghai university, which ranked 500 universities around the world. The University of Helsinki ranked 76th, dropping four positions from last year, when the University was ranked 72nd.

The University of Turku reached the shared position of 203–300. Helsinki University of Technology, the University of Jyväskylä, and the University of Oulu all made the shared position of 401–500. These five universities were also on the ranking list last year.

The Shanghai Jiao Tong University evaluated over 1,000 universities, 500 of which were ranked according to research performance.

The indicators used in ranking included the number of internationally published scientific articles, the frequency that research carried out at each university was cited in other research papers, and the quality of education.

The highest-ranking university was Harvard in the United States. In second place was the University of Cambridge in the UK, and third was Stanford University, also in the USA. The best Nordic university was Stockholm’s Karolinska Institute, ranking 45th.

The Shanghai Jiao Tong University also compiled a ranking list of European universities. This list includes Helsinki, ranking 23rd, and Turku, in shared 80th position.
