University of Helsinki ranked 7th in online publishing

At the University of Helsinki, the availability of research has been improved by posting as many research articles as possible openly on the Internet.

– Both national and international scientific publications often allow the open online publication of the researcher's manuscript version. The University of Helsinki's articles are available for all interested parties in our digital archive HELDA, says Veera Ristikartano, Special Planning Officer at the Helsinki University Library Digital Services.

The university researchers have also actively promoted the open availability of their own publications and articles.

– Many researchers have also made their research available online on their own. The university website has a multitude of openly available scientific articles posted on the researchers' homepages, says Timo Aalto, Planning Officer at the Helsinki University Library Digital Services.

The Webometrics ranking demonstrates the worldwide online influence and commitment to the open publishing of scientific information. According to the ranking, information about the University of Helsinki and research publications are easily found with search engines and from international research databases.

Webometrics is an initiative of the Spanish research group, Cybermetrics Lab. The ranking, published since 2004, covers 12,000 universities worldwide.
