State research funding to increase in 2004

The 2004 state budget allocates EUR 1,538 million to research and developments, Statistics Finland reports.

State research funding to increase The increase in the research funding is stipulated in the Government programme and totals EUR 93 million. The biggest increase goes to the Ministry of Education, EUR 45 million. The Ministry of Trade and Industry will also receive additional research funding of EUR 32 million. Only the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Ministry of Defence will receive less research funding in 2004.

The share of the universities in research and development funding remains close to the previous year’s level, at 27 per cent. The Academy of Finland’s share of funding, however, will increase in 2004 by almost one percentage point. The share of the National Technology Agency of Finland remains virtually unchanged.
