One in four postdoctoral research fellow applicants are international researchers

The university supports the careers of new doctors to the tune of EUR 1.5 million.

Rector Thomas Wilhelmsson has appointed 12 postdoctoral research fellows. The university will use its own funds to finance the three-year posts.

The first postdoctoral research fellows at the university were appointed three years ago. The purpose of the posts is to help talented researchers who have recently completed their doctorates to enhance their competence as independent professional researchers.

Both domestic and foreign researchers may apply for the postdoctoral research fellowship.

“The posts support national and international mobility and promote multidisciplinary competence. It is our hope that the researchers take a look at the subject of their completed dissertations from a new perspective,” says Nina Saris, Planner.

This year, approximately one in four of the 207 applicants, and three of those appointed, were international researchers.

According to Saris, the expertise level of the applicants was high, and there are always very distinguished researchers among them. This may also reflect a bottleneck in the four-phase researcher career.

“After working as a postdoctoral research fellow, you should proceed to the third level, i.e., researcher and lecturer, but the competition for posts is tough, and there are not enough posts for everyone. In this three-year period, they can earn their spurs and focus on research.”
