The Academy of Finland appoints ten new Academy Professors
Five professors from the University of Helsinki are appointed.
Yesterday the Board of the Academy of Finland appointed ten Academy Professors, five of whom are from the University of Helsinki. Their five-year term begins as of August 2006 and ends in June 2011. As a result of these appointments, the Academy now has 40 Academy Professors.The Academy Professorships are granted to persons who have shown outstanding skills in research and who can be deemed to promote research in their respective disciplines.
Academy Professor Ilkka Hanski of the University of Helsinki has been re-appointed for a second term. The new Academy Professors from the University of Helsinki are Kari Astala, Erkki Koskela, Juha Merilä and Jari Valkonen.
