University and Student Union rewarded international excellence
One cheer for Mar Cabeza, award winning teacher, and another one for the best students
– The University of Helsinki wants to consolidate its position among the best multidisciplinary research universities in the world. It takes time to produce good quality. We need you international students to remain in our position on the top, says Rector Thomas Wilhelmsson, and continues:
International alumni activities will start later this autumn. It is important to stay in contact when you leave us. Do remember to register as alumni. We look forward to staying in touch with you.
The Rector presented international student grants to 31 students from 19 countries, spanning 4 different continents. The university wishes to support the best of international students and to promote excellence.
In addition to this, the Student Union of the University of Helsinki (HYY) awarded the Best International Teacher Award to Mar Cabeza. Mar Cabeza is a Doctor of Biosciences and a member of the metapopulation group. The students of Cabeza consider her both an excellent and motivating teacher as well as a dedicated supervisor. She encourages her students to group work and discussions. Cabeza knows how to challenge her students into new thoughts and perspectives.
– The University of Helsinki offers a good environment for teachers. It promotes creativity. However, I cannot do my job without you. I thank all my students. I learn together with you, Mar Cabeza says.
With the Best International Teacher Award HYY wants to pay attention to the importance of quality teaching for students and to the needs of international students. The award is granted annually to an excellent lecturer or a dedicated supervisor who teaches in a language other than Finnish or Swedish.
