The 10th Anniversary of the Neuroscience Center
The Neuroscience Center was celebrating its 10th anniversary on January 1, 2012.
The Neuroscience Center was founded on February 1, 2002, initially for five years. In the spring of 2002, the University Senate decided upon the NC's regulations and appointed the first Board. By the spring of 2003, the Center's directorial post, three research director positions and three group leader positions were filled. Professor Heikki Rauvala was elected the Neuroscience Center's Director.
Two of the research directors were placed in Meilahti and the rest on the Viikki campus. In the spring of 2003, the NC's common facilities at the Cultivator II in Viikki became fully operational and by the fall of the same year, all selected research groups had started their work at the Neuroscience Center. In the spring of 2011, the Rector decided that as of 1 January 2012, the operations of the Neuroscience Center will continue indefinitely.
Today the NC has 16 research groups and an international personnel of 158 scientists.
Director Heikki Rauvala congratulated the Neuroscience Center for 10 successful years and proposed a toast to the Center.
